Sophia Bush ("One Tree Hill') is set to play the female lead in the horror remake of 1986 classic THE HITCHER. The remake will follow two young travelers who are tormented by a mysterious hitchhiker, says Production Weekly.

That brief plot summary suggests that the new "Hitcher" script, courtesy of Jake Wade Wall and Eric Brent, deviates at least somewhat from the 1986 cult classic that focused mostly on one young man (C. Thomas Howell) and his unfortunate dealings with the titular psycho (Rutger Hauer).

Music video director Dave Meyers is directing the update, set to begin production in Texas this June. Thus far, Bush is the only actor attached to the project, which will come from Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes shingle, reports Zap2it.

Bush, best known to "OTH" fans as Brooke, has appeared in the features "Supercross" and "Stay Alive." She's set to co-star in this summer's dark comedy "John Tucker Must Die."
