Variety reports that producer Mike Jefferies announced at a Cannes party that he's in negotiations with director Michael Apted to helm the third and final chapter of the GOAL! soccer trilogy.

Although the first movie, which opened last weekend, has not done very well in the U.S., they will be going ahead with the third movie which takes Santiago Munez to the World Cup. Produced with the cooperation of FIFA, the soccer world league, the plans are to actually film much of the movie at this summer's World Cup in Germany.

Currently, Apted is shooting a documentary about the impact of soccer around the world.
