Good grief! Such grunge, such gore...like gooey, gouged-out eye sockets. But I suppose that's only expected when World Wrestling Entertainment's mammoth 7-foot Kane (a.k.a Glen Jacobs) headlines a slasher thriller.

In the prologue, police officer Williams (Steven Vidler) loses his partner and much of his right arm when he's attacked by axe-wielding Jacob Goodnight (Kane). Wlliams shoots Goodnight in the head, a bullet wound that, unfortunately, is not fatal.

Flash forward four years, and Williams is sent to supervise eight delinquents (four men and four women) on a community service weekend clean-up project at the dilapidated Blackwell Hotel, which is destined to become a homeless shelter. Problem is: this creepy, rat and cockroach-infested hovel is where the crazed Goodnight has taken up residence.

Predictably, one by one, they succumb to the psychopath's sadistic wrath. A girl who talks too much on her cell phone is forced to choke on it, while the vegetarian animal lover becomes dog-food. Yuch!

Written by Dan Madigan and directed by Gregory Dark, it lacks characters worth caring about - and, aside from the loud sound effects, there's little suspense. Revulsion is not a substitute for genuine horror. What's truly terrifying is that Lionsgate, after funding "Saw" and "Hostel," hits the bottom of the barrel with this atrocity.

For me, the scariest moment was reading in the press notes that the beefy Kane feels "there are a lot of similarities" between himself and the tormented Goodnight, who, like "Psycho" Norman Bates, blames all his perversions on his religious-fanatic mother. Oops!

On the Granger Movie Gauge of 1 to 10, "See No Evil" is a loathsome 1, not even worth renting on DVD.
