Morgit Management Lands Unknown
Nikki Blonsky a Lead Role in Hairspray
Elmont, New York, June 28th , 2006. Morgit Management, a five-year old talent management firm from Long Island, is proud to announce that Cinderella stories do happen in real life. They proved it by landing one of their clients, a 17-year-old unknown from Great Neck, New York--Nicole Blonsky--a lead role in the upcoming feature film “Hairspray,” starring John Travolta, Queen Latifah and Michelle Pfeiffer.
Michael Ostrowski, one of the partners at Morgit Management states: “We first met Nikki 4 years ago when we were searching for a young girl with an incredible voice, for the feature film, School Of Rock.”
“We called what seemed like every voice coach in the New York area. Finally, we came across Miss Blonsky’s voice coach who said: ‘You have to meet Nicole Blonsky.’”
It was at this first meeting that Nikki won Morgit Management over with, among other qualities, her incredible voice. A year later when Nikki was 14, she told Morgit that her dream was to play the role of “Tracy Turnblad” in the Broadway musical, “Hairspray.” Morgit submitted Nikki’s picture and resume two years in a row and she finally got an audition with a call back last year.
Unfortunately, she was still a bit too young for the role. In December of 2005, Morgit learned that New Line Cinema was turning the Broadway musical “Hairspray” into a feature film. “At that moment we knew that to land a role of this magnitude we had to take the ‘bull by the horns,’” Ostrowski said. “My partner, Margaret Karaszek and I put Nikki on tape, put it on a website and sent the link to Tyler Gillett at New Line. He promptly passed it along to the wonderful casting team of “Hairspray,” David Rubin and Richard Hicks of Firefly Casting.”
Nikki was on her way!
The casting process took 4 long months and on Nikki’s second audition Karaszek and Ostrowski drove Nikki to Manhattan in the middle of the biggest snow storm in recent years. “Everyone said we were crazy, but it was worth it and I would do it again in a heart beat for Nikki,” Karaszek said.
So you see, sometimes dreams do come true.
