Sony Pictures Classics has nabbed North American rights to writer-director Francis Veber's hit comedy THE VALET (LA DOUBLURE) from French production outfit Gaumont.
The company plans an early 2007 domestic release for the film, which has earned $20 million overseas since its March opening, says The Hollywood Reporter.
The farce, set for an English-language remake from directors Peter and Bobby Farrelly at DreamWorks Pictures, stars Daniel Auteuil as multimillionaire tycoon photographed kissing his famous mistress (Alice Taglioni). To prevent his wife (Kristin Scott Thomas, in a rare French-speaking role) from seeking divorce, he bribes a parking valet (Gad Elmaleh) to pose as his mistress' lover.
