MTV: Music Television today announced the nominees for the 2005 MTV MOVIE AWARDS. Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy and Mean Girls top this year's nominee list with four nominations each. It was also announced that Fever Pitch's Jimmy Fallon is set to host the star-studded awards show. The fourteenth annual awards ceremony will air on June 9th at 8:30PM (ET/PT). The winners will be revealed at the 2005 MTV MOVIE AWARDS, which will be taped on June 4th at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, CA.

"Best Frightened Performance" and "Best Video Game Based on a Movie" are two new categories that will be introduced into the awards show. The Best Frightened Performance will award the actor who consistently over the course of the film gave the most convincingly frightened performance. Additionally, MTV will pay tribute to all the great video games where movies were the inspiration for the game with "Best Video Game Based on a Movie." This award will be announced in the Pre-Show and viewers will be able to vote for this category by dialing *MTV on their Virgin Mobile phone.

"The MTV Movie Awards celebrate all the films, stars, and memorable moments from the past year from Mean Girls to Will Ferrell to Napoleon Dynamite's dance scene -- everything that our audience looks for in a great movie," said Van Toffler, President, MTV Networks Group, LOGO, and MTV Films. "The introduction of two new categories this year clearly demonstrates that this show constantly evolves to address our audiences' tastes."

"Jimmy makes the MTV Movie Awards better. He's funny, he's original, and his enthusiasm is contagious," said Joel Gallen, Executive Producer. "He's already emailed me tons of ideas and we can't wait to get started."

Fallon can currently be seen opposite Drew Barrymore in the hit romantic comedy, Fever Pitch, which was inspired by the Nick Hornby book and directed by the Farrelly Brothers. Best known for his work on "Saturday Night Live," Fallon joined the cast in September 1998. In the 2000 season, he became co-anchor of the show's popular "Weekend Update" and his memorable impressions of Adam Sandler, Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock and John Lennon continue to be a highlight in a revitalized cast. Fallon laid the groundwork for his transition to movies with supporting roles in the Oscar-Award winning feature film, Almost Famous, HBO's highly anticipated miniseries "Band of Brothers," and Woody Allen's comedy, Anything Else. He also starred opposite Queen Latifah in the mismatched buddy/action comedy, Taxi, from 20th Century Fox, directed by Tim Story ("Barbershop"). In 1999, Fallon released a book, I Hate This Place: The Pessimist's Guide To Life, which he co-wrote with his sister Gloria, as well as the forthcoming children's book, JIMMY FALLON'S SNOWBALL FIGHT, due out this Fall. He also released a comedy album called The Bathroom Wall which received a Grammy nomination. Fallon has had successful stints as host of the 2001 MTV Movie Awards and the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards.

The nominees for the 2005 MTV MOVIE AWARDS are chosen through a national poll of MTV and MTV2 viewers. The winners will be determined by MTV and MTV2 viewers, and only Virgin Mobile USA customers can cast their vote wirelessly through "*MTV" found under "VirginXtras" or "VirginXL" for 3G-enabled phones. In addition, votes can be cast from May 4 through May 20 online by visiting MTV.com or by telephone at 900-562-2300 at 99 cents per call (must be 18 years or older to call).
