(US) Box office estimates for May 6-8 weekend
Source: Variety Ridley Scott's epic Kingdom of Heaven led the box office this weekend with $20 million after 20th Century Fox unspooled it at 3,216 theaters. Warner Bros.' slasher House of Wax scooped much of the biz from younger auds, debuting with $12.2 million from 3,111 locations. Also starting this weekend, Lions Gate's high-end pic Crash opened big with $9.1 million from 1,864 venues. The debut helming effort from Paul Haggis tied for third place with last week's champ, Disney's The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, which was down 57% in its second week. Finishing out the top five was Universal's The Interpreter with $7.5 million in its third week.
