Paramount Pictures has tapped screenwriter Joel Fields to adapt James Siegel's thriller Detour, which Lorenzo di Bonaventura is producing, reports Variety.
Story's centered on an American couple traveling to Colombia to adopt an infant. When they are kidnapped by guerrillas after their baby is switched, the husband's pressed into duty as a drug mule.
Paramount bought screen rights to Detour a year ago and set it up with di Bonaventura, who's also producing the screen version of Siegel's novel "Derailed" for Miramax. "Derailed" was the first novel for Siegel, who was chief of ad agency BBDO when he began writing thrillers.
